Mike was an owner surrender due to his person passing away.
Upon intake, we noticed his front, right arm was deformed into an “L” shape but it wasn’t bothering him. We took him to the vet because he was laying around a lot, and wasn’t eating/drinking enough. They did an X-ray which showed he had a previous break of his forearm and it looks as if it was “repaired” with a plate and screws by a vet years ago. Unfortunately, the plate and screws did not hold and the owner never took him back in to get it fixed. This forced him to learn how to walk differently, using the broken arm as a crutch and ultimately made the arm heal into an “L” shape. It was also found he had a fever but it was unknown if his leg was causing it or if it was just from stress. We were told to keep him on antibiotics for a week and if the fever came back, then we would need to take him back in because it would then most likely be a leg problem.
It has been a week since he finished his medicine and there has been no fever! This means he will not need to go back to the vet for further testing. He also eats (fancy feast is his favorite) and drinks fine now. Turns out he is also just REALLY lazy, LOVES his fluffy beds, and most importantly his habit of laying around is not leg pain related. If you are looking for a couch potato Netflix watching partner, then Mike is your man! Whoever adopts him may want to take him in annually for an exam to make sure he is still fine and healthy, but hey. That’s what you would do for any other pet regardless! 🙂
The ideal house would be one that has a lot of carpeting or rugs because even though he walks on it fine, we imagine it would still be annoying for him to walk on hard floors all the time.
