PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Running or walking three miles can be tough for many, but it helps when you are accompanied by a furry friend.
The Humane Society of Bay County held their Furry Friend 5k this morning at Frank Brown Park. The group is the only no kill animal shelter in Ba County, and have been for several years. Organizers say their funding comes from donors, sponsors, and events like this. The shelter receives around 10 animals per week and averages around 60 adoptions a month. Volunteers say events like this are a great way to spread awareness in the community.
“They expose the pubic to the need for these animals to have homes and they also raise funds for the animals that are there,” said Susan Morgan, Humane Society Volunteer. If you aren’t ready to adopt a pet, the Humane Society of Bay County also has temporary fostering opportunities.
